Great Life Mentoring Named Expert Partner
In 2014, MENTOR Washington qualified Great Life Mentoring as the first Expert Partner in Washington state, as evaluated through a rigorous quality assurance and continuous improvement program. The Expert Partner status was valid until 2019 when GLM was re-assessed. This re-assessment, through the National Quality Mentoring Assessment System (NQMS), found Great Life Mentoring (GLM) is operating with 100% of outlined best practices.
MENTOR Washington reports, “After working collaboratively with Great Life Mentoring, our team is certain Great Life Mentoring applies the most up-to-date, research-driven practices to its mentoring program, implements essential components of organizational operations, and conducts effective high-quality evaluation of its practices and outcomes for the youth they serve.”
MENTOR Washington is an impartial capacity-building, advocacy, and research partner committed to advancing the quality of services received by youth and their families.
The NQMS is a nationally-implemented program based on 20 years of research in youth mentoring. It has been implemented in the US since 2010 and has been researched with funding by the William T. Grant Foundation.
MENTOR Washington works with approximately 100 mentoring programs throughout the state. Great Life Mentoring in Clark County, WA, is one of seven programs who have achieved Expert Partner status since 2014.
The Expert Partner designation means that GLM is committed to following best practices that help ensure the community’s youth and volunteers are safe and that they experience mentoring relationships that result in positive outcomes such as increased persistence, academic success, and decreased chances of exhibiting risky behavior. GLM will be re-assessed again in 2002.
In rigorous studies, mentoring conducted in high quality programs reduced juvenile delinquency and crime; improved school attendance, grades and high school graduation rates; improved mental health; and lowered the risk of youth involvement in such risky behaviors as drugs, and alcohol and tobacco use.
